Just after dawn long shadows drift across this iconic structure in downtown Templeton, California. Along with many artists I have been inspired by the building for years. I have painted seven oils of it between 2005 and 2018. These efforts became the studies for the 48” x 48” oil shown here. (It was finished in 2011 and was sold to prominent San Diego architect Norm Applebaum.)
The subtle greys of the worn wood and the shadows cast by the towering shapes reminds us of our agriculture past. Tragically a fire on July 4, 2025 burned this beautiful structure to the ground. We are all devastated to lose this architectural Templeton core.
