Anne Laddon was one of the founders of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia. There were dozens of talented printmakers there during this time, and the artists often brought their dogs to work with them, and this print was inspired by a Puii Sheepdog and a Miniature Terrier who were constantly on site.
